What kind of impression did you get from Hiroshima City? What experiences did you have during the mobile life?

Hiroshima is an incredible city! It has strong connections to nature and the historical events of the World War II. I really enjoyed living here for almost a year. Compared to cities like Tokyo or Osaka, the city is quite quiet. This makes it a perfect place to live if you don’t like having a lot of people around you. Most of the citizens are really kind and welcoming, too. I particularly enjoyed the nature around the university, despite the fact that it was exhausting carrying groceries back to the dorm, as well as the restaurants in the city centre.

● 広島市立大学ではどんな勉強をしましたか?
What did you study in Hiroshima City University? How did you like about the lectures at HCU?

I studied computer science, with the focus on network technology and AI. The lectures were well organised and presented in the simplest way possible. I also had the opportunity to join an amazing Japanese class, which I found really fun and enriching.

Give your comments or advises for future exchange students.

Make the most of your time in Japan — it’s short, but well worth it! Enjoy as many events as you can, and if your budget allows, travel around the country. There are some truly breathtaking places. Even if you find it difficult, remember that there’s always a way. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared at the beginning, given that Japan is on the other side of the world (from a German perspective) and it was my first trip abroad. But I’m really happy that I took the step, because Japan has so much to offer, and many locals will welcome you warmly, especially if you start the conversation in Japanese. So my advice is to do it: go abroad! Be brave, also as a Japanese student, and try it, it’s an amazing experience. And for students visiting Japan, it can be helpful to learn some basic Japanese beforehand.
