This department researches the development of hardware, software and network engineering, which are the technical foundation of the next generation of information sciences.

Course description

●Computer Engineering

The area of computer engineering focuses on computer systems, primarily on elemental technologies which are fundamental to information sciences. We offer many areas in which to specialize, such as: logic circuit designing, specifically the design and analysis of logic circuits and systems and VLSI design automation, both of which are the basis of computer systems development. In addition, other areas of specialization include the analysis of software and hardware and parallel processing architecture, processor architecture and performance evaluation. In order to meet society’s demand for highly reliable computer systems, we also offer a specialized training in an area called dependable computing.

●Network Engineering

The area of network engineering focuses on education and research related to the field of informatics and communication technologies. To take advantage of the wireless and wired communication technologies, we offer many fields of specialization: next generation network technology such as sustainable assurance network and efficient network content delivery, network software technology to realize varied and complex communication services, network control algorithms to enable advanced and reliable network control, high-speed satellite communication technology, and environmental monitoring technology with remote sensing application.

●Communication Science

The area of Communication Science focuses on the advanced communication infrastructure including computer networks and social networks, composed of large amounts of devices, data, human activities and their connections. This area covers research on actors and their relational linkages of such complex communication infrastructures. We offer two specialized areas: one is the network science area to research the architecture and analysis technologies of large-scale complex networks, and the other is the sensor system area to research new sensor materials and sensors for translating from physical quantities into valuable information.
