spaceIntroduction of Faculty

class Art is the unique act of human beings, based upon the free play of the human spirit. More and more is being expected of art as a social act which cultivates our sensibility and humanity in every field of society, including scientific technology, economics, and politics. The Faculty of Art recognizes such roles of art in modern society, and trains able persons who can continue sustained creative activities in various fields of our society. As a faculty concentrating on practical skills, the Faculty conducts education and training which emphasizes the mastery of basic skills.

spaceSpecial features of the Faculty

Special features of the Faculty include the following:

  1. As a faculty concentrating on practical skills, the Faculty emphasizes the training of basic artistic skills, and students are required to spend hours on practicums which are designed to improve students' mastery of such basic skills.

  2. The Faculty requires the study of classical works of art for all the students of the Faculty, regardless of the Division to which they belong, and, as part of field studies, they are required to take the subject Studies in Classical Works of Art, in which they learn about ancient historical works of art in off-campus museum.

  3. In the Division of Fine Arts,studies of classical works of art are the central subjects, and students are trained to master basic materials of art and ways of expression in their own fields.

  4. In the Division of Design and Industrial Art, curricula are the same for both freshmen and sophomores. In this way, it is expected that during this period they master basic skills, and acquire artistic skills in broader areas. Only in their junior and senior years are they allowed to prepare to produce required works of art, and also works of art necessary for graduation.

Expected careers for students after graduation include: professional artists, careers in publishing businesses, printing, journalism, design, and related areas, and specialists in the fields of fine arts, photography, movie industries, etc., ranging over wider areas and fields in the future.
